Health Benefits
Rich in complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber, chapati provides sustained energy and supports healthy digestion. Whole-wheat flour also provides plant-based protein, iron, magnesium, and B vitamins.
What you'll need
- 1 cup whole wheat flour (atta)
- ½ cup water, or as required
- 1 teaspoon oil
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Dry wheat flour for dusting
Let's make it
- Add whole wheat flour and salt to a mixing bowl. Gradually add water and knead into a soft, smooth dough.
- Add 1 teaspoon oil and knead the dough for another 1–2 minutes until it becomes soft and pliable.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 10–15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and roll each portion into a smooth ball.
- Dust a dough ball with dry wheat flour and roll it into a thin, round chapati.
- Heat a tawa over medium-high heat. Place the rolled chapati on the hot tawa and cook until small bubbles appear.
- Flip and cook the other side until light brown spots appear. Flip once more and gently press the edges until the chapati puffs up.
- Remove from the tawa and serve hot.
